My Approach

My approach to spiritual direction begins with my experience and belief that our loving God is in everything. No matter where you are or what you are experiencing, God is present and laboring for your good. I see my role as someone who observes God’s voice and activity in your life as you share. My intention is to ask questions, make observations, and wonder with you in ways that bring greater awareness and deepen your experience and engagement with God.

Ignatian Spirituality

My perspective is deeply influenced by the spirituality of St. Ignatius, or the Jesuit tradition. In addition to God in Everything, the Spirit invites us to be Contemplatives in Action, engaged in an Incarnational Reality, and living in Spiritual Freedom and Detachment. Woven through all this is loving Discernment and enlightened Decision-Making to dynamically connect with God in everyday life.

Enneagram

During my twenty plus years of ministry, I have discovered and studied the enneagram, a transformative personality tool. I use this tool if desired by and appropriate for the directee to help them distinguish and live in their true selves, freely connect to God, and find an authentic Holy path.

Called and Gifted

Frederick Buechner writes,” Your vocation in life is where your greatest joy meets the world’s greatest need.” We are all created uniquely to powerfully and joyfully express God in the world. The called and gifted tool can be helpful if you are searching for a deeper connection with God accompanied by a Spirit-empowered fruitfulness in your service and vocation.

Serving All God’s People

Serving those of different ethnicities and races- God gives us what we need for every season of our lives. The Holy Spirit leads us to the people and resources that will help us grow and deepen in our relationship with God and others. In this time of racial awareness, tension and trauma, you may be looking for a spiritual director with a more similar or more varied racial/ethnic experience or background to yours. It gives me joy to explore the graces of spiritual life in complex contexts.

Serving those from different spiritual backgrounds- I have extensive experience directing people from a variety of spiritual traditions and experiences, especially Roman Catholic and Protestant. In the spirit of Mother Teresa,”I love all religions, but I am in love with my own.”
